What Your Body is Trying to Tell You

Sometimes the most powerful sessions are the ones that almost didn’t happen.

Yesterday, five minutes past the appointment for my last client of the day, I thought they were not going so I started putting everything away. Just as I was about to turn off the music, the client came rushing in apologizing for being late. They jumped on the table and asked if we could do as much as possible in the now shortened session.

I tuned in and immediately felt everything.

The heaviness laced in between the tiny bits of light struggling to shine through. The fight to hold in their emotions which simmered just below the surface, begging to be released.

As I lay my hands on them, I sensed their vulnerability. An innocence wanting to be loved, imprisoned in blocks so thick I knew they had been unconsciously created to numb their feelings.

They were sad. Fearful. Protective.

I could feel all of it radiating through my palms into my own body.

When I was finished, I checked the seven major chakras to ensure they were all open and flowing. When I got to their third eye, their own eyes were still closed and I witnessed a lone silent tear escape from the corner and trail down their cheek.

Box of tissues in hand, I helped them sit up and waited a few seconds before sharing what I felt.

“You have yourself so deeply protected that your emotions are all bunched and stuck inside,” I began.

I went on to explain what I felt in all of their chakras - the loving innocent purity that longed to be honored and validated had been layered over by the naivety that was too painful to allow to flow through. The easier thing was to pull back in. To push down the pain until it got buried so deep that they were starting to get sick.

“Your body is constantly trying to talk to you,” I told them. “When we feel an emotion, it’s our body’s way of releasing energy. It wants to let go and if you don’t allow it space, if you keep it shoved inside and don’t honor the release, nothing will heal.”

They cried harder, vigorously wiping away the tears that ran faster now.

“I know you don’t feel it now, but you’re safe. Whatever the story is that left these feelings has passed. What remains is the emotional imprint. It’s all energy. Honor it and let it flow through you,” I offered.

They nodded as I told them to take it easy on themselves last night. “You’ll be tired. But when these emotions bubble again, and I promise they will, just let them out. Let them go. You’ll feel better.”

I promise.
